The Glass Aisle 2018: an album, a poetry collection, a tour

In 2017 singer-songwriter Brian Briggs (Stornoway) & award-winning poet Paul Henry toured the UK with their astonishing collaboration of poetry and songs, The Glass Aisle. From the university chambers of Oxford Literary Festival, to the warm glow of the Caught By The River stage at The Good Life Experience (pictured), to the rainy Italianate village of Portmeirion at Festival No. 6 and the welcoming crowds at Kenilworth Arts Festival, their mesmirizing blend of poetry and music has won over new and old fans alike.

And so 2018 opens with some more big moments for The Glass Aisle. After some busy months in the studio with Stornoway’s Jon Ouin, on 16 February 2018 Brian Briggs & Paul Henry release The Glass Aisle as an album, plus their first single ‘John Moonlight’ – which opens their piece and weaves poetry and songs together to mesmerising effect. John Moonlight was a poacher who fished the Usk and the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal. Paul’s lyrics transport the listener deep into the frozen landscape on the cusp of spring through the portal of Brian’s pure tenor.

February also marks the launch of Paul Henry’s new poetry collection of the same title, The Glass Aisle published by Seren Books, £9.99. Henry’s collection, has already received some well deserved praise from the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and the former National Poet of Wales Gillian Clarke:

“This haunting, elegiac collection, about music, and made of music, leaves a reader’s mind full of phrases, in both senses – verbal, and tonal – and exactitudes that catch the heart and lodge in the memory” Gillian Clarke

“In this virtuoso new collection, Paul Henry, poacher-like, tracks the journeys of the heart through landscape, love and loss. He takes his place as one of the most important Welsh poets now writing.” Carol Ann Duffy

Both The Glass Aisle album & book will be launched at a series of festivals and events throughout 2018.
